Optimize
VR for anxiety reduction during awake surgeries
What is Optimize?
Optimize is a research- and innovation project, which develops technologies for the healthcare system that can contribute to reducing medication consumption during operations, and improving the patient experience drastically.
Lying awake during an operation can be an uneasy experience, and many patients therefore need relaxing medication, which can cause side effects and increase risks in connection with the operation. We aim to replace relaxing medication with VR experiences that can divert the patients’ attention. During the surgery, the patient wears VR glasses and headphones, experiencing a virtual reality with images, sound or other stimuli. This leads to effective distraction from the operation, and the perception of a far more pleasant overall environment.
