Pain Distraction Game for Dentists | Rigshospitalet
Client: Rigshospitalet & Ringkøbing-Skjern Kommune
Target Medium: Pico
Task: A visit to the dentist can be a daunting experience for children. The sounds of dental instruments, the unfamiliar environment, and the fear of discomfort often cause significant anxiety. To alleviate this, dental professionals traditionally use distraction techniques such as cartoons or toys, but these methods are sometimes not enough to fully engage children during procedures.
At Ringkøbing-Skjern Kommune, the team was looking for a way to make dental visits less stressful for children and to reduce the anxiety they experience when sitting in the dental chair. The goal was to explore if Virtual Reality could offer a more immersive and effective way to distract children from the anxiety and discomfort of dental procedures.
Khora was approached to test whether Comfort XR, a VR solution designed for pain distraction, could be the answer. The idea was to transform the dental experience from one of fear into an engaging, fun moment where children could focus on play rather than the procedure happening around them.
