VIRDIS – Diagnosing various mental health conditions with VR

Challenge: The need for innovative methods to assess and treat mental health disorders, utilizing immersive technology to measure subtle behavioral and physiological responses in patients. Traditional methods may not capture the full complexity of mental health conditions, and there are gaps in real-time data collection and feedback.    

Task: To develop a VR-based diagnostic tool integrated with biofeedback wearables to monitor mental health patients’ physiological and emotional responses during simulated social scenarios. The task also includes training professionals to use this technology and ensuring smooth collaboration among the stakeholders. 

Solution: Introduce VR combined with biofeedback technology to assess mental health conditions. By simulating social scenarios, the system captures subtle responses, allowing for deeper insights into patient behavior and emotions. The solution also involves a collaboration between the mental health expertise of NEAD, Sensae’s biofeedback technology, and Khora’s VR production capabilities.

This project is a prime example of how virtual reality, can be used to encounter concrete challenges in the social sector.​
