Copenhagen Lakes Project | Københavns Kommune
Client: Københavns Kommune (Copenhagen Municipality)
Target Medium: Oculus Go
Task: The Copenhagen Lakes are a city landmark, however, the eminent threat of climate change is making the city more susceptible to floods in the near future. To prevent this, the Copenhagen Municipality studied the possibility to use Sankt Jørgens Sø as a way to store or delay large amounts of rainwater. Part of this study was dedicated to assess the impact on the urban and nature spaces that the project would have. This is where the citizen’s voices needed to be heard. In order to help them visualize this urban planning project the Copenhagen Municipality decided to use Virtual Reality.
For this project, the intension was to create a ‘before’ and ‘after’ effect, so that the citizens had a better idea of how the lakes would actually look like after each of the 3 possible scenarios that were being studied. To achieve the best effect, we created a series of 360 videos from different points of view around the lakes to show the ‘before’. And to help citizens visualize the ‘after’ we overlayed each point of view with 3D graphics based on the models that were being studied.
The experience was shown in a mobile office next to the lakes in August 2018. People could visit, get more information about the project, experience the lakes in the future, and express their opinions, thoughts and possible concerns and challenges with the municipality officers.
